Phil Mickelson has admitted he is uncertain why he missed the cut at Torrey Pines this week following a below par display.
The American started poorly in the opening round of the Farmers Insurance Open in California, as the 41-year-old hit a 77 with some wayward shots, especially off the tee.
Mickelson showed signs of improvement in his second round score of 68 but it was too little, too late for the four-time major winner and the left-hander crashed out of the event.
After such an uncharacteristic opening round, Mickelson has admitted he was left wondering what went wrong at one of the first events of the new season.
He said: "It's easy for me to see where the difference is, and the difference is that I'm not taking it from the practice tee to the course.
"My practice sessions for the last month or so have been better than they've ever been.
"I'm just having trouble bringing it from the practice session onto the golf course.
"I'm not sure exactly why that is, but the good news is that there's not an area of my game that I feel is bad."
