Arsenal have been hit by the news Jack Wilshere has suffered a stress fracture in his foot and could be out for the season.

The talented youngster has yet to figure in this campaign after picking up an ankle injury while on international duty with England last summer. Although he made a brief appearance pre-season, he has been on the sidelines since.

It was through he would return to action in late January or early February but he is looking at further time on the sidelines after picking up the latest injury in training.

Manager Arsene Wenger confirmed the 20-year-old suffered pain in the join when running in training last week and it has since been reported that he suffered a small stress fracture in his right ankle.

He is not due to undergo a scan for another fortnight but there are fears that he could miss the remainder of the season, although Arsenal have yet to comment on how long the midfielder will be out for.

Should Wilshere be ruled out for the season it would be a huge blow for both Arsenal and England.
