Fulham manager Martin Jol believes new signing Pavel Pogrebnyak can fill the void left by Bobby Zamora.


The 31-year-old striker left for west London rivals QPR on transfer deadline day, leaving the home side bereft of attacking ideas as they were held to a 1-1 draw by West Brom.

Fulham's starting line-up was without a recognised striker and it showed as the hosts seemed to miss Zamora's physical presence, but Jol believes the Cottagers will recover from his departure and backed Russia international Pogrebnyak to shine after his late move from Stuttgart.

"He has got a good record," said the Dutchman. "He had a good spell at Stuttgart, especially when Christian Gross was there. He has 45 caps for Russia and his coaches Dick Advocaat and Guus Hiddink were complimentary of him.

"They said he was a good boy who works hard for the team so I was really happy to get him in. It is not always easy to get players in [like that]."

Pogrebnyak has penned a contract until end of the season to replace Zamora, who joined QPR for a fee that could be worth £6million-plus.
