Raikkonen back in the saddle

by Setanta Staff , 08 February 2012

Kimi Raikkonen has delivered an upbeat verdict over his capabilities in Formula 1 after his first day of testing with new team Lotus.

The Finn, 32, is back in the glamour world of F1 after a two-year break although he has the credentials having been crowned world champion back in 2007.

The ace is now looking to roll back the years and says he felt good following a run-out in Jerez, Spain on Tuesday when all the teams taking part were using 2012 cars apart from Mercedes and HRT.

"It was a positive day," said Raikkonen after setting the best times. "The lap times don't matter today. I'm happy with the balance of the car, which feels good, and the fact that we didn't have any major issues.

"Also, I did more than a race distance today and did not have any physical problems at all, which is good."

The 2012 season kicks off on March 18 with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.
