Suarez ready for backlash

by Michelle Fortune , 08 February 2012

Luis Suarez insists he is ready for the backlash he will be subjected to when he faces Manchester United for the first time since his eight-match suspension for racially abusing Patrice Evra.

Suarez was found guilty of racially abusing the United defender during the Premier League draw between the two sides back in October and Saturday's midday kick off will be only his second game back from the eight-match suspension imposed by an independent regulatory commission.

Evra came in for a lot of abuse when United travelled to Anfield for the FA Cup fourth round tie last month and Suarez can expect the same treatment at Old Trafford.

The striker knows he will be in the firing line but rather than worry about it he is determined to use it to his advantage.

"I was not depressed at all," he told Radio Sport 890 in his homeland. "I knew what I did and there is a kind of football law that says 'what happens on the pitch, stays on the pitch and that's the end of the story'.

"I know against Man Utd it is going to be tense because I'm going to face Evra. But I'm used to having fans whistle at me.

"I hope nothing unusual happens. I'll have to forget what happened for that moment.

"I do know Man Utd fans are going to try to make me feel uncomfortable. But I have to tell them, they are going to spur me on if they whistle at me."
