Yuvraj determined to beat cancer

India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has vowed to beat cancer and return to cricket after receiving "overwhelming" support from fans.

The 30-year-old has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called seminoma and is currently in the USA being treated for his condition.

It first emerged that there might be a problem when he started feeling unwell during last year's World Cup.

An initial diagnoses suggested that he had a benign tumour but further investigations revealed that it was malignant and he now faces lengthy treatment to try and cure the problem.

The left-hander was selected to tour England last summer but flew home with an injury early on and played no further part in proceedings.

The Chandigarh-born star is a regular tweeter and has posted several messages on Twitter vowing to beat the illness after thanking the fans for the thousands of messages of support he has received.

He tweeted: "I will fight and come back as a stronger man because I have the prayers of my nation. Thank you to the media for their support and respecting my privacy."
