Mayo v Dublin set for March 31

by Michelle Fortune , 13 February 2012

The GAA's Central Competitions Control Committee have rescheduled the Allianz Football League Division One tie between Mayo and Dublin for March 31.

Dublin were leading by 0-8 to 0-5 at the break in Saturday's original fixture but a thick fog descended on McHale Park, resulting in referee Marty Duffy to add an extra five minutes to the half-time interval.

However, the fog failed to clear and after consulting with managers James Horan and Pat Gilroy the decision was taken to abandon the fixture.

The CCCC met on Monday to discuss rescheduling the match and it was thought that the game would take place at McHale Park on Saturday, February 18 with a throw-in of 2pm.

However, that meant that players from both counties would be unable to line out in the M Donnelly interprovincial semi-finals on Sunday, prompting the CCCC to seek an alternative date.

Following the abandonment both Horan and Gilroy have expressed their desire for the match to be moved to Croke Park.

"I never mind playing in Croke Park. We will see what the CCCC come up with," Horan said. "Are we allowed to play on Friday nights? I wouldn't have a problem with a midweek game."

Gilroy added: "I think it would be great to play it in Croke Park. But if we have to go back to Castlebar, we have to come back down and it will be no big deal."
