Owen Coyle has said the players, not the formation, were the problem against Wigan and has vowed to make changes.
Wanderers were outplayed by Wigan on Saturday as they slumped to a 2-1 defeat in the relegation battle at the Reebok Stadium and Coyle came in for heavy criticism for going with a 4-4-2 formation.
4-5-1 had been working well with Fabrice Muamba and Nigel Reo-Coker acting as the holding midfielders, giving Mark Davies the license to attack and support the lone striker.
However Muamba was dropped and Kevin Davies came in alongside David Ngog which resulted in Wigan dominating the midfield and the game to take all three points.
Coyle has stuck to his guns though and says the same team and formation won 3-1 at Wigan earlier in the season and would have taken the points again had they played to their full potential.
"The skipper and David had played ever so well together at the DW Stadium and we had won the game with a bit to spare," he told the BEN. "The same wide players also played, so they have all had opportunities, they can't say they haven't.
"It doesn't matter who is grumbling, or who is not, whatever system you put out there it's about players and whether they get to their maximum."
Meanwhile Coyle says he will now make changes as he is not prepared to put up with performances like the one at the weekend.
"It's individual errors that have cost us, and nothing else," he added. "Coming off the back of a poor defensive display last week, it has happened again, but I have got enough personnel now to make changes and that's what is going to happen.
"I'm not going to sit through that again."
