David Kelly and Damien Hayes have won the Opel GPA Players of the month awards for June.
Sligo forward Kelly played a big role as the Yeats County footballers saw off Mayo in their provincial quarter-final before their drawn semi with Galway, who they conquered in the replay at the start of this month.
Kelly was man-of-the-match in the drawn game and went on to score the crucial Sligo goal in the replay as well, putting himself in a good position to nab another award in July.
Meanwhile, Galway hurler Hayes has earned the award for his code after he played a big role in his side’s progression to their first ever Leinster final.
Hayes contributed 2-3 from play to help see off Offaly in June’s replayed semi-final in Portlaoise.
Sadly for him and Galway they were well beaten by Kilkenny in Sunday’s final, though Hayes did at least net a goal in the decider.
