Moore happy with extra game

by Shane Keegan , 21 April 2012

Galway hurling captain Fergal Moore has welcomed his side’s Division 1a relegation play-off replay with Dublin on Saturday, as he believes that it will be good preparation for the Championship.

The sides will face each other for the second time in a week on Saturday afternoon in Portlaoise, after extra time failed to seperate them last weekend in Tullamore.

"You can train all you want but there is nothing like matches, and good, tight, physical games like we had last Sunday will bring everyone on a tonne,” said Moore in the Irish Examiner.

“At this time of the year you cannot underestimate how important games are.

"It (last Sunday's draw) was a good, competitive match. It was tight, physical game, but it always is against Dublin and we were lucky to get to extra-time. We were probably unlucky to only draw in injury-time but we are just delighted to get another shot at it."

Even though his side find themselves in a relegation battle and with the heavy loss suffered at the hands of Kilkenny earlier in the season aside, Moore feels that the Galway hurlers have had a good League campaign.

"A lot of people overlooked the fact that on the day the All-Ireland champions played very, very well,” he added.

“We made a lot of mistakes and contributed to our own downfall. We just went back to the drawing board, went back training on the Tuesday night.

"You don't become a bad team overnight. We just regrouped and kept the head down and trained and got a much better performance on Sunday."
