Harry to seek top top advice

by Setanta staff , 19 February 2012

Harry Redknapp says that he would turn down the England job is if his son Jamie did not think he should accept it.

The Tottenham Hotspur manager remains the overwhelming favourite to replace Fabio Capello at the Three Lions helm, though is yet to receive an official approach from the FA.

His son Jamie, the former Liverpool, Spurs and Southampton midfielder, however, has been quoted as saying he is not certain if his father would leave the White Hart Lane job to take over the national side, with Redknapp admitting that he would garner pundit Jamie’s opinion before making any decision that he might have to make.

"I speak to Jamie more than anybody," Redknapp, who has insisted he will not leave Spurs before the end of the season whatever happens, was quoted as saying by Sky Sports.

“I'd speak to him about it for sure - he's one I'd stand on more than anyone."
Redknapp senior, meanwhile, says that he has the character to take the flak that might come with the England job.

The ex-West Ham, Southampton and Portsmouth chief added: "It goes with the job.

"There have been some good managers who have all had it. Apart from Terry Venables in Euro '96, everybody else has been slaughtered at times.

"If you lose a couple of games, it is like the world is coming to an end, isn't it? That's what you have to put up with.

"It is getting near the knuckle now, though. I heard the other day during a game on TV some people chanting about some player's wife.

"I couldn't believe what I was hearing.

"But that is what happens now - it is different to how it used to be."
