Tuilagi glad to be back

by Kieran O'Daly , 19 February 2012

Returning England centre Manu Tuilagi is rarely to go and, after recovering from a series of unfortunate injuries,  is eagerly anticipating the clash with Wales at Twickenham next Saturday.

The 20-year-old Leicester starlet had been one of the few bright lights of England's dismal World Cup campaign but, by jumping off a ferry into Auckland Harbour, he still contrived to arrive home in shame. He then shattered an eye socket and suffered a serious hamstring injury which has limited him to just five outings for his club this season.

However, new interim coach Stuart Lancaster feels that Tuilagi has a lot to offer and has included him in his squad for the Wales game, something the Leicester man is clearly grateful for.

"I'm really excited to get back among new management and new players. I definitely feel fit and ready to play. I've been out that long," he said.

"When you wear the red rose you go out and represent everyone in the country. I've grown up fast in this environment. I feel I've learned a lot and with that experience. I've grown up as a person as well as a player.

"I didn't realise before how much attention and scrutiny you get on you as an England rugby player. I realise it now. I realise I've got to make better decisions in future.”
