David Moyes has said the team's first half performance against Tottenham at the weekend cost his side a chance of the points.
Everton were two down at the break thanks to goals from Roman Pavlyuchenko and Luka Modric and despite a second 45 minutes where they dominated proceedings they were still left short and came away from the game with nothing.
Moyes believes his side left themselves with too much to do, he said: "We didn't deserve anything in the first half, that's for sure.
"
But by the end of the game we probably deserved something out of it.
We just gave ourselves too big a mountain to climb in the first place.
"It was a spirited second half but they needed it. After the first-half performance they needed it and after the performance in midweek against Sporting Lisbon they needed it, because they weren't good enough.
"
The second half I can look at and say the supporters got their money's worth out of us, but they didn't in midweek or in the first half today."
