Everton star Steven Pienaar has been hit with a 12-month driving ban after pleading guilty to drinking and driving.
The South African midfielder was pulled over by police in Liverpool in the early hours of February 21- the morning after the Toffees had defeated Manchester United 3-1 in the Premier League - and was found to be nearly twice the legal limit when submitting a breath-test.
The 27-year-old former Borussia Dortmund ace was also fined STG1,000 by Liverpool magistrates and ordered to cough up an additional STG100 for failing to comply with a traffic signal and STG100 in costs.
However, the year-long driving ban could be reduced by three months if he completes a course by October 7.
While the news is a blow for Pienaar he can at least console himself with the fact that on the field things are going well.
He is showing his best form this season since joining the Toffees and has played a key role in their strong recent run of form which included that win over United, a 2-1 success over Chelsea and Sunday's brilliant Mikel Arteta-inspired 5-1 trouncing of Hull City.
