Rafa Benitez insisted he was pleased with his players' efforts in the 1-0 Europa League defeat at Lille on Thursday.
The Reds' torrid week got worse in France when a late Eden Hazard strike handed Lille a 1-0, first-leg advantage but Benitez was pleased with the response he got from his side after asking for an improvement following the dismal defeat at Wigan on Monday.
"When you play away you have to score when you have chances. To score an early goal you can manage the game but we worked hard today."
Benitez is confident his side can overturn the deficit at Anfield in a week's time after watching the Reds miss several good chances against the hard-working French outfit.
"I am confident we can beat anyone at Anfield on our day with the fans behind us," he added.
"We were just not strong enough today but there is still 90 minutes to play."
