Hammers eye Becks deal

by Admin , 21 March 2010 David Beckham

West Ham have confirmed their interest in signing David Beckham and will make a bid if he becomes available.

Beckham, who is facing four months on the sidelines with an Achilles injury that will keep him out of the World Cup, is currently contracted to MLS outfit LA Galaxy but there have been suggestions he will return to the Premier League once his contract is up.

There would be no shortage of interest in Beckham if he did become available but co-owner David Gold says the Hammers would have a good chance of landing the midfielder, who was born in Leytonstone.

"David keeps on showing he still has so much to offer and if he's available then we want to be bidding," Gold revealed. "It's not only a case of what he can do on the pitch but what he does off it - he'd be a sensational ambassador for his home-town club.

"He's a local boy like the two owners and this could appeal to him.

"It's not fanciful as he has so much to offer.

"His arrival would be massive."
