Fletcher craves European progress

by setanta.com staff , 07 April 2010

Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher is desperate to get past Bayern Munich on Wednesday so he can finally play in a Champions League final.

United host the Bundesliga giants 2-1 down from the first leg and are almost certain to be without star man Wayne Rooney, who injured his ankle in the first leg.

However, belief at Old Trafford is still strong that the Red Devils can get past Louis Van Gaal's side and nobody is hungrier to do so than Fletcher, who - after being an unused substitute in the 2008 final win over Chelsea in Moscow - was suspended for last year's decider loss to Barcelona, having been wrongly sent off in the semi-final second leg win at Arsenal.

That makes him hungrier to negotiate the latest step of United's European journey successfully and get one step closer to the final.

"Playing in a Champions League final is definitely something I want to do," the 26-year-old Scot was quoted as saying by United's official website.

"Every player wants the opportunity to do that and I know all the lads are desperate to get back there for a third year in a row.

"I was really disappointed to miss out last year, but I don't hold any grudges about it, I'm just determined to get back there and help the team lift the trophy again."
