Bhoys rout Motherwell after the break

by setanta.com staff , 01 May 2010

A raft of second half goals saw Celtic defeat Motherwell 4-0 in the SPL on Saturday.

The game at Celtic Park was scoreless at half-time, but Republic of Ireland trio Aiden McGeady, Darren O’Dea and Robbie Keane all scored in the second half, which also saw a debut and goal for 18-year-old James Forrest.

Keane was among the substitutes for the game, the first half of which saw Morten Rasmussen and Josh Thompson waste early chances for the Bhoys. McGeady also drew a save from John Ruddy with a 16-yard drive, while Tom Hateley was just wide with a rare Motherwell chance at the other end.

Edson Braafheid the fired a shot high over the bar for Neil Lennon’s smen as both teams headed to the dressing rooms at half-times without having scored.
However, it took just three minutes of the second half for Celtic to kick off the scoring.

Winger McGeady made a beeline for the ‘Well box once he had the ball at his feet and, though Hateley looked to have blocked his charge, a clever chip over the unprepared Ruddy broke the deadlock.

Zheng Zhi then headed over as Celtic pressed for a second, Keane replacing Rasmussen to aid with that goal.

The second did not come until the 78th minute, however. Artur Boruc had just denied another Hateley effort when O’Dea got his head to a McGeady cross and forced the ball over the line from close range.

McGeady was then withdrawn for youngster Forrest and just six minutes into his debut he made it 3-0. Marc-Antoine Fortune played him through and a lovely dink over Ruddy gave him a moment to remember.

Then Celtic broke away once more in stoppage-time and from 12 yards Keane smashed in his 16th goal in Celtic colours.
