Steve Cotterill could be in line for the managerial hot-seat at Hull City after chairman Adam Pearson spoke to him about the vacancy.
The former Notts County, Cheltenham and Burnley boss is Portsmouth's preferred choice to replace Avram Grant but their hopes of landing Cotterill are being held up by their financial problems.
However, it's understood he has already agreed to take over at Pompey providing the club can starve off the threat of liquidation in the High Court with a creditors meeting due to take place on Thursday.
If all goes to plan, the south coast club expect to name Cotterill as their manager before the weekend, but any other outcome could leave the door open to the Tigers.
Another name believed to be in the running for City job is ex-Portsmouth boss Paul Hart who is available for work after leaving Crystal Palace.
