Kjaer agrees Wolfsburg deal

by Admin , 08 July 2010

Simon Kjaer, one of the most highly regarded defensive prospects in European football, has signed for Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg.

It has been announced that Denmark centre-back Kjaer has agreed to move from Serie A side Palermo to the German team for a fee of more than £10 million.

The 21-year-old has been linked with some of the top club sides in Europe in previous years, but former England and FC Twente manager Steve McLaren has moved quickly to secure his signature.

Kjaer is expected to line-up for Wolfsburg next season alongside their other recent summer signing, German international Arne Friedrich, at the heart of the club's defence next season.

He joined Palermo from FC Midtjylland in 2008 and became regarded as one of the top young defenders in Serie A, while he also impressed for Denmark in their disappointing World Cup campaign in South Africa.

"The transfer means I have the chance to play for a top club," said Kjaer.

"I think this is the right step for me. We have a strong team that can challenge at the top of the Bundesliga. First, I need to secure a regular place."
