Sheffield Wednesday have secured the signature of striker Clinton Morrison on a free transfer after his release by Coventry.

The 37-cap Republic of Ireland forward becomes Alan Irvine's eighth summer signing and underlines Wednesday's intent to bounce back to the Championship at the first time of asking.

Morrison has put pen to paper on a two-year deal with the Owls and joins Chris Sedgwick, Jon Otsemobor, Paul Heffernan, Daniel Jones, Giles Coke, Gary Teale and Neil Mellor in making the switch to Hillsborough in time for next season.

The vastly experienced striker began his career with Crystal Palace in 1997, before moving on to Birmingham for £4.2m five years later.

He rejoined Palace in 2005 before linking up with the Sky Blues. The 31-year-old has scored 151 goals in total of 413 starts in all competitions, and was Coventry's top scorer last season.
