Middlesbrough are eyeing a move for Ipswich striker Jon Walters after Brad Jones finalised his £2.3m move to Liverpool.
Despite signing the likes of Kris Boyd over the summer, Boro boss Gordon Strachan remains keen on increasing his attacking options at the Riverside Stadium and is understood to enquired about Walters' situation after he was made available for transfer by Ipswich manager Roy Keane.
Stoke are also reported to be interested in the 26-year-old who reacted to losing the Ipswich captaincy by handing in a transfer request, while Strachan has also been linked with a move for Cardiff's Peter Whittingham.
Strachan is on the look out for a right sided player, having been consistently linked with Craig Conway at Dundee United, and has money to spend now Jones' move to Liverpool has gone through.
The 28-year-old goalkeeper finalised his move to Anfield on Tuesday morning after travelling to Merseyside for a medical on Monday afternoon.
Jones, anAustralia international, will provide cover for first choice Pepe Reina and qualifies as a "home-grown" player under the new Premier League rules after joining the Teessiders from Australian amateur side Bayswater City.
Jones made 75 first-team appearances for Middlesbrough and also spent time on loan at Blackpool, Rotherham, Stockport and Sheffield Wednesday.
