Middlesbrough have confirmed the capture of centre-back Matt Kilgallon from Sunderland on a season-long loan deal.
Kilgallon only joined the Black Cats in January from Sheffield United but, following several poor performances, was dropped by boss Steve Bruce towards the end of the season and has been allowed to leave the Stadium of Light.
Bolton were also monitoring his situation and were thought to be preparing a bid for the 24-year-old, who had also been linked with Celtic.
Sunderland have brought in Titus Bramble and Nedum Onouha this summer while Steve Bruce has also acquired John Mensah on loan again, so Kilgallon, who penned a three-and-a-half-year deal when he joined the Black Cats, was way down the pecking order on Wearside.
