England enjoy the pressure - Collingwood

by Admin , 08 September 2010

Paul Collingwood says England's players enjoy the added pressure of being World Twenty20 champions after their seventh straight win.

The England captain spoke out after his side followed up Sunday's five-wicket win against Pakistan in Cardiff with an even more convincing six-wicket victory at the same venue on Tuesday evening.

England, who lifted the World Twenty20 crown in May, bowled Pakistan out for just 89 thanks in large to Tim Bresnan's 3-10, before Collingwood's 21 and Eoin Morgan's unbeaten 18 helped them over the winning line with six overs still remaining.

The two-match series win against Pakistan followed on from the five matches England won to lift the World Cup earlier this year which means they have levelled the international Twenty20 record by winning their seventh match in a row.

Collingwood said: "In this form of the game it can be tough to win consecutively. It just takes one performance from the opposition to take it away from you.

"Having won the World Cup you have added pressure, but the way we've played over the last two games, the boys are enjoying that added pressure."

He added: "It's a special achievement, and we obviously did it during the best time - which was during the World Cup.

"To continue with that form, even though we've lost a couple of players, I'm delighted in the response of the dressing room - and the bowlers as a unit are doing fantastically well.

"I think in the last seven games they haven't conceded more than 148 runs - which is fantastic in the Twenty20 format.

"We are just doing a lot of things really well - and we still have a lot of intent with the bat as well."
