Hooper saves Celtic record

by Setanta.com staff , 17 October 2010

Celtic maintained their 100% start to the Premier League with a 2-1 win over Dundee United at Tannadice, Gary Hooper scoring both goals for the Bhoys.

In a stormy encounter, Neil Lennon's men went ahead in the 13th minute when former Scunthorpe striker Hooper swept home a cross by Mark Wilson.

United did not manage to trouble the Celtic defence until the 20th minute, when Scott Severin twice saw efforts cleared off the line by Georgios Samaras.

Celtic came back with a string of half chances but it the home side that struck next when David Goodwillie advanced from midfield and unleashed a shot that deflected off Glenn Loovens and past Fraser Forster.

The match took a turn for the controversial after 70 minutes when Dusan Pernis appeared to sweep the legs of Hooper and a penalty was awarded.

However, following a conversation with the assistant linesman, the decision was rescinded by the referee and a drop ball was awarded.

Neil Lennon ranted on the sidelines, but to no avail, but relief was to come for the Northern Irishman on the stroke of full-time when he swept home a Samaras knockdown.
