SPL: Celtic on cloud nine after rout

by Setanta.com staff , 06 November 2010

Celtic left Aberdeen shellshocked following a stunning 9-0 rout at Celtic Park.

The demolition included two hat-tricks for Gary Hooper and Anthony Stokes as Celtic's strikers ran riot at home.

The opener came from the spot as Anthony Stokes slotted home his first following Paul Hartley's dismissal for handball in the box.

Straight from the kick-off, Celtic doubled their advantage.

Hooper outmuscled Zander Diamond before slotting home a brilliant drive from 12 yards out.

Aberdeen began to collapse shortly after as Hooper notched his second of the afternoon.

Diamond deflected a Niall McGinn cross straight into Hooper's path and he fired home from close range.

It wasn't all sunshine for Celtic as they found themselves reduced to ten men after Thomas Rovne was sent off for pulling down Maguire on the edge of the box.

Stokes notched his second penalty of the day on the half, as the steered home after Shaun Maloney was taken down in the box.

Goal number five was a rare non-goal from the Celtic strikeforce as Dons defender Josh Magennis scored into his own net.

Hooper claimed his hat-trick shortly after, losing Diamond before nodding smartly past Langfield.

Joe Ledley then joined the party with an impressive low driven effort that perhaps a more spirited defence could have prevented.

Again, straight from the restart, Celtic proved their attacking prowess with their eight goal.

Anthony Stokes joined the hat-trick club by slotting calmly past Langfield.

Substitute Paddy McCourt made it nine for the Hoops with five minutes remaining.

The Northern Irish international scored from the spot after Shaun Maloney was again brought down in the box.
