O'Brien seals Bolton exit

Leeds United have confirmed the signing of Bolton defender Andy O'Brien on a two-and-a-half year contract.

O'Brien joined Leeds from the Wanderers in October after falling out of favour at the Reebok and the centre-half has been a big hit since his switch to Elland Road.

The centre-half had been due to return to Bolton after Leeds' trip to Cardiff on Tuesday but he will now remain with the Yorkshire side.

There had been speculation that Cardiff City could scupper the deal and secure the 31-year-old defender but Leeds chairman Ken Bates has revealed O'Brien has rejected Cardiff's offer and agreed a two-and-a-half year contract.

"I met with Andy on Friday and despite a tempting offer from Cardiff, he has agreed to join us on a two-and-half-year deal which we are delighted about," Bates told the club's official website.
