Celtic too good for Hibs

by Setanta Staff , 15 January 2011

Celtic are eight points clear at the top of the Scottish Premier League after a 3-0 win over Hibernian at Easter Road on Saturday.

Anthony Stokes scored twice, with Gary Hooper netting the opener, to leave Neil Lennon's side clear of Rangers, though having played four games more than their Glasgow rivals.

Hibs has their chances to score and were unlucky not to take the lead in the first half when David Wotherspoon's header flew just wide of Fraser Forster's post.

Daniel Majstorovic headed wide for the Bhoys when it looked easier to score, but Celtic finally managed to break down the Hibs defence just before half time.

The impressive Hooper, returning to lead the attack after a knee injury, flicked on a low cross from Stokes and side-footed the ball impressively into the far corner of the Hibernian net.

Celtic quickly built on their lead five minutes after the break, when a clumsy challenge by Lewis Stevenson on Stokes led to a spot-kick. The Dubliner dusted himself down and slotted the ball past Mark Brown.

Paddy McCourt forced a fine save from the former Celtic stopper before the visitors put the game beyond doubt with the best goal of the match.

Stokes gathered a corner with his back to goal, 16 yards out, before he swivelled and angled a stunning drive past Brown into the corner.
