Nasri plots Barca's downfall

by Setanta Staff , 04 March 2011

Samir Nasri is desperate to put the heartache of cup final defeat behind him and the Arsenal star has his sights set on beating Barcelona.

The Gunners were beaten 2-1 by Birmingham City in the Carling Cup final last Sunday and, while admitting it came as a major blow, Nasri is keen for his team-mates to bounce back and continue their challenge for honours.

"The blow will drive us forward because we want to take revenge for what happened on Sunday," he said

"We want to show everyone that we are men and have guts to answer people and show we are not the same players as before.

"The past is the past and we have to look forward. Tomorrow (Saturday) we have a game and then Barcelona."

Arsenal face Sunderland in the Premier League on Saturday with the north London outfit still very much involved in the title hunt. The Gunners currently trail league-leaders Manchester United by four points but they do have a game in hand and boss Arsene Wenger will also be keen for his side to continue their run in the FA Cup.

They travel to United for a quarter-final showdown on March 12. However, Nasri's focus is on their Champions League least 16 fixture with Barcelona on Tuesday.

Arsenal were comprehensively beaten by the Catalan giants at the Nou Camp last season but Nasri feels the Gunners have matured and can go to Barcelona on Tuesday and finish the job they started in the first-leg, which the Gunners won 2-1 at the Emirates.

"Barcelona seemed much better last year because we've become more macho, both physically and psychologically," Nasri said on the task of facing the Spanish giants.

"Some of the players are much better this year than before - Theo Walcott, Jack Wilshere, myself.

"We've all stepped up and become stronger and more macho. Players have stepped up and driven the team forward. We can compete with everyone now."
