Real strikers not for sale

by Setanta Staff , 03 June 2011 football news

Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho has insisted that strikers Gonzalo Higuain and Karim Benzema will not be sold this summer.

The two players have struggled to establish themselves at the Bernabeu this season due to poor form and injury, but the Portugese coach has insisted the duo do have a future in the Spanish capital.

The pair have both been linked with moves to Arsenal with Atletico Madrid's Sergio Aguero reportedly on the verge of signing for 'Los Blancos', but Mourinho is insisting the pair will remain at the club as he looks to build a 'new era' at the club.

"We continue to count on Benzema and Higuain because they are not for sale," Mourinho said.

"Aguero is a fantastic player, but he is an Atletico player."

Mourinho has also reiterated his desire to sign compatriot Fabio Coentrao from Benfica, praising the player's ability and telling reporters he'd love to see the full-back join him in the capital.

"He is a great player," added Mourihno.

"I like him for his versatility, playing in all positions. Players like him are always welcome, and more so at a club as demanding as Madrid."
