Malky Mackay has agreed terms with Cardiff and will be announced as the club's new manager.
The Watford boss was given permission to talk to the Bluebirds by the Hornets this week and has now agreed to take over at the Cardiff City Stadium, where he succeeds Dave Jones who left at the end of last term.
Mackay led the Hornets to a mid-table finish in the Championship last season, but is a highly-rated young manager and will be charged with the task of getting the South Wales outfit into the top flight where Jones could not.
Cardiff have a very tough opener to the new season when they face West Ham United at Upton Park in early August.
