Murphy plays down Potters talk

by Setanta Staff , 09 August 2011 Target plays down Potters move talk

Motherwell striker Jamie Murphy insists he would be happy to stay with the SPL club, despite interest from Premier League clubs.

The 21-year-old is understood to be a target for Stoke, West Brom and Wolves during the current transfer window, having caught the eye over the last couple of seasons.

Murphy has started the new campaign in impressive style, helping Motherwell to the top of SPL table with two goals in their opening three league games, including the winner against Hearts last weekend.

The player himself has played down talk of a move south of the border and says he is just focusing on Motherwell at this stage.

"Until someone says a team has made a bid and I have to speak with them, I can't do anything other than try my best for Motherwell," Murphy said.

"I have grown up in Glasgow and like the fact my family and all my friends are here."

He added: "I am not saying I want to move.

"If it happens, it happens but I love playing at Motherwell and I just have to do that until someone says otherwise.

"There's a great team spirit here. I have grown up with a lot of the boys and some of them are my best friends.

"If we can keep the group together, it will be a good side."
