Fenlon appointed by Hibernian

by JP Lonergan , 25 November 2011

Pat Fenlon has signed a two-and-a-half year deal to become Hibernian’s new manager.

The Irishman will take on the job after Bohemians gave the Scottish Premier League side permission to speak to him in their search to replace Colin Calderwood.

Fenlon will be unveiled at a press conference on Friday afternoon, and has already told Hibernian’s official website: "I'm really excited by the prospect of managing Hibernian, a club with a rich history and proud traditions.

"When I came to Easter Road in March for a friendly match, while I was in charge of Bohemians, I saw close-up the tremendous potential of the club."

Fenlon moves to Scotland with a strong managerial record in Ireland behind him. He has won the league as a boss on five occasions, lifting the trophy three times with Shelbourne and twice Bohs, as well as claiming three Cups and embarking on several European advantures.

Shamrock Rovers have beaten his Bohs side to the league title in each of the last two seasons, however, so he has opted to move on and take the helm of a club in ninth place in the SPL but just two points off the foot of the table.

He will take charge immediately, with Hibs away to St Johnstone on Saturday.
