Fairy to continue racing

by Michelle Fortune , 05 December 2011

Snow Fairy will be given every chance to remaining in training for another season.

The filly has returned to Ed Dunlop's Newmarket yard after an injury prevented her from lining up in this month's Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Vase.

Having won the Hong Kong Cup last year, the four-year-old had been looking to become the first horse to win the two races but she suffered an injury to her near-fore during a canter at Sha Tin last week and was forced to return to Britain at the first opportunity.

The injury will take some time to heal but Dunlop has confirmed plans to keep the filly in training as a five-year-old.

"My veterinary surgeon Mike Shepherd examined her this morning and a decision has been made by me and Mrs Patino [owner] that she will not be retired," Dunlop revealed on his website.

"The injury she sustained in Hong Kong will require a fair amount of time to heal, but Mrs Patino has sportingly decided that she is prepared to give her every chance to return to the racecourse next year."

Although she failed to win in Europe this season, Snow Fairy excelled in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe before landing the Queen Elizabeth II Commemorative Cup for a second successive year.
