Fulham are out of the Europa League, having surrendered a two goal lead to draw 2-2 against Odense BK at Craven Cottage.
The Premier League side took the lead with a nicely worked goal before the half hour mark.
Kerim Frei ran down the line imperiously before playing in Bobby Zamora. The England striker deftly set up Clint Dempsey and the 29-year-old slotted home with aplomb from just inside the penalty area.
Four minutes later, it was 2-0.
Moussa Dembele intercepted Bernard Mendy before running across goal and setting the ball into the path of Frei. He slotted under Wessels for another fine Cottagers strike.
That was as good as it got for Martin Jol's side, however.
They were reduced to long range efforts from Chris Baird and Damien Duff in the second half as they invited Odense on to them.
The London side's nerves were jangling when Hans Henrik Andreasen's free-kick went through the Fulham wall, but they still would not wake up.
Aaron Hughes had one half chance from a Duff cross, but ultimately Fulham were made to pay when Baye Djiby Fall headed past rookie goalkeeper Neil Etheridge.
