Swans grab fine win over Arsenal

by Tony Cuddihy , 15 January 2012

Swansea City secured their best win of their Premier League season so far, beating Arsenal 3-2 at the Liberty Stadium.

Danny Graham scored the winner just one minute after Theo Walcott had equalised for Arsenal.

Robin van Persie scored the opener inside the opening five minutes. Aaron Ramsey's ball forward found Andrey Arshavin and the Russian - anonymous for the last twelve months of his Arsenal career - managed to produce a brilliant ball for van Persie to delay before squeezing past Michel Vorm.

The Gunners, surprisingly, did not have their lead for long. Nathan Dyer appeared to foul Ramsey but instead it was the Welshman that was penalised.

Scott Sinclair converted the penalty and Brendan Rodgers' side celebrated.

Arsenal were not at their best, with Ignasi Miguel in particular struggling on the left, and it was no shock when Swansea took the lead.

Joe Allen nicked the ball off Ramsey near the halfway before finding the effervescent Dyer, the 24-year-old slotting home from 15 yards.

Arsene Wenger brought on Thierry Henry and the veteran's pass set up Walcott's equaliser, the England man chipping over Vorm and in.

The Swans, however, scored from the restart. Substitute Gylfi Sigurdsson played Graham into the right side of the box and he beat Per Mertesacker for pace before shooting past Szczesny.

Laurent Koscielny almost equalised with a late volley, but it was Swansea's day.
