Graham Dorrans is being backed to make the most of his opportunity if he is recalled to the West Brom team to visit Stoke on Saturday.
Baggies head coach Roy Hodgson is convinced the midfielder is a more than able deputy for Paul Scharner if the Austrian is forced to miss the trip to the Britannia Stadium this weekend.
Scharner is struggling to overcome an Achilles injury which flared up against Norwich at the Hawthorns and Hodgson is planning to give him extra time to get over the problem.
Hodgson can afford to do that as Dorrans is approaching full sharpness and the former Fulham and Liverpool boss claims he would have no qualms about handing him a shirt for the clash at the Britannia Stadium.
"It's a chance for Graham who has done well in recent games when he has come on. He is also getting better and better with every training session," he said.
"He is a quality player. You don't lose that quality but sometimes you get rusty if you are not playing or have had injuries like he has.
"That's behind him and he is a player in contention."
