Blues eye Cox raid

by Setanta staff , 20 January 2012

Birmingham boss Chris Hughton has confirmed that he has made an inquiry to West Brom about the availability of Republic of Ireland striker Simon Cox.

The Blues chief is desperate to add some firepower to his promotion-chasing outfit as they look to bounce back to the Premier League at the first attempt following relegation last season.

And Hughton revealed that he has spoken with the Baggies about the possibility of taking Republic of Ireland international striker, Cox, who has struggled for first-team action under Roy Hodgson at the Hawthorns this season.

However, he did not elaborate on whether a deal was on the cards or if he would consider a swap involving baggies target Liam Ridgewell.

"Simon Cox, have we made an inquiry? Yes, we have," Hughton told the Birmingham Mail.

"And this is part - if I look at the processes - of your communications with lots of clubs; you are wondering about which players would be available.

"Sometimes a question set back to me from a manager would be instead of me asking which players are available, which players am I thinking about?

"These are the kind of conversations I have. I have spoken about Cox and that's it."
