Villa are waiting to learn the extent of Charles N'Zogbia's heel injury but Stephen Ireland and Emile Heskey are close to full fitness.
N'Zogbia has been to see a specialist to ascertain the extent of his heel problem, which has kept him out of the club's last three games.
Manager Alex McLeish said: "Charles will see a specialist today, because he still has pain in his right heel.
"We'll await the results of that before we make a decision on whether he will be involved."
Meanwhile, Ireland and Heskey have both made good progress from their respective injuries and are set to return for the FA Cup fourth round game at Arsenal on Sunday.
"Both players have missed the past few weeks but McLeish is hopeful of having them available this weekend.
"Emile has responded well to treatment on his Achilles and he will train later in the week, so he has a chance of making it," the Scot added.
While on Ireland, he said: "We're very positive on Stephen and hopefully he will be back training with the group later in the week, too."
