Aston Villa are reportedly happy to let striker Emile Heskey leave in the summer on a free when his contract expires.
The 34-year-old is clearly coming towards the end of his career and Villa are not prepared to offer him a new deal at the end of the season as boss Alex McLeish attempts to build for the future with younger players.
The former England star is one of the highest earners at Villa Park and owner Randy Lerner is said to be keen to get him off the wage bill in order to free up more funds to recruit new players in the summer.
Heskey is likely to interest several clubs who would be willing to offer him a one-year deal with old club Leicester City likely to be at the front of the queue.
Heskey could be joined by Carlos Cuellar, Habib Beye and goalkeeper Brad Guzan, who are all also out of contract at the end of the season, in being released on free transfers.
