Everton are said to be locked in negotiations with Rangers in an attempt to hammer out a deal for striker Nikica Jelavic.
David Moyes is desperate to bolster his side's strike force as they have struggled for goals all season and hopes that he can bring Jelavic to Goodison Park before the transfer window closes.
Moyes has been strapped for cash but the sale of Russian winger Diniyar Bilyaletdinov to Spartak Moscow has freed up some funds and a move to sign Jelavic is well down the line.
The 26-year-old is keen to move to England and both Liverpool and QPR are also interested in the Croatian international.
However Everton are in pole position and hope to wrap up a deal as soon as possible.
