Blackburn boss Steve Kean insists loan signing Anthony Modeste can make a big impact at Ewood Park after his debut on Wednesday.
Rovers suffered a 2-0 defeat at home to Newcastle on Wednesday night but Kean feels Modeste's display provides cause for optimism, despite the fact he couldn't produce a goal on his Premier League debut.
"Anthony has shown tonight that he's got something different," said Kean to Radio Rovers.
"He's probably snatched at a couple of chances where he could have slowed down and showed a bit of composure."
The 23-year-old striker joined Blackburn on loan from French side Bordeaux for the remainder of the campaign in the January transfer window, and Kean believes the French forward has the ability to succeed in the Premier League.
He added: "He wasn't meant to be playing from the start tonight, David Goodwillie was meant to be playing but he's got flu, so he was thrown in at the last minute and maybe he got a little bit excited.
"But he has shown enough tonight that he can make a chance for himself, he caused two very good centre halves problems."
