Earls back for Ireland

by Setanta Staff , 09 February 2012

Outside centre Keith Earls is back in the Ireland side in the only change for their crucial Six Nations clash against France in Paris.

Earls was a late withdrawal from the squad that played Wales last week as he had to attend to his ill new-born daughter.

He replaces Fergus McFadden in the starting XV, with the Leinster back returning to the bench in place of David Kearney.

Ulster flanker Stephen Ferris is able to retain his place after a disciplinary committee opted not to issue a ban after he was cited for a tackle on Wales forward Ian Evans.

Ireland head to Paris knowing their Six Nations hopes are hanging by a thread following that last-gasp 23-21 defeat to Warren Gatand's men.

They have won just once in the French capital since 1972 and have beaten France only once in 12 meetings anywhere since 2003.

Captain Paul O'Connell said: "There's a lot we have to improve on. Some of the silly errors we made against Wales we must cut out. "

Against France away from home you need to start well.

It is frustrating that I haven't beaten France in Paris, but we have a team that can do it."
