Coolderry into first club final

by Oli Skehan , 11 February 2012

Coolderry are through to their first ever AIB All-Ireland club hurling final following a convincing 3-16 to 0-17 win over Gort at the Gaelic Grounds.

The Leinster champions will face Ulster counterparts Loughgiel Shamrocks in the St Patrick's Day decider - the Antrim side needed extra-time to see off a spirited Na Piarsaigh outfit at Parnell Park.

Ken Hogan's Coolderry led 1-10 to 0-9 at the break and when Cathal Parlon found the net early in the second-half the writing looked on the wall for the men from the west but a run of four unanswered points reduced the gap to just five points entering the closing minutes.

However, a third goal from Damien Murray saw the men from the Faithful County over the line while Liam Watson was the hero for Loughgiel Shamrocks - the county star ended the day with an incredible haul of 0-16 as the men from north of the border finally saw off Limerick's finest on a 0-27 to 2-13 scoreline having led 0-11 to 1-5 at the break, before substitute Robert Sheehan's stoppage time goal and Kevin Downes' point levelled things up at the end of normal time.
