Tyrone far too good for Derry

by Setanta staff , 12 February 2012

Tyrone continued their impressive start to the 2012 Allianz Football League Division Two season with a 12-point win over Derry on Sunday.

Mickey Harte’s men defeated their Ulster rivals by 2-15 to 0-9 at Healy Park, with Michael Murphy and Peter Harte putting away the goals in a win that Oak Leaf boss John Brennan will know was all-too-easy for his side’s opponents.

Brennan’s men actually bagged the game’s first two scores as Mark Lynch and Charlie Kielt kicked over points. It would all go wrong from there, however, with Murphy getting the hosts on the scoreboard and Owen Mulligan quickly tying the game level.

Murphy and Stephen O’Neill would help Tyrone back into the lead, before good attacking play led to Penrose squaring for Murphy to fist the home side’s first goal beyond Paul Morgan.

With Cathal McCarron scoring as well, Harte’s men led by 1-7 to 0-3 at the interval and little sign came that Derry could ever get back into it.

That view was proved right after Harte the player buried a penalty to the net on 51 minutes, while Derry’s Patsy Bradley was sent off.

The few late scores that the Oak Leafers could manage were never going to get them close to the tally that points from Mulligan, Matthew Donnelly and Kyle Coney had helped the O’Neill County achieve, as they made it two wins from two in what is proving so far to be a very promising 2012 all round.
