Celtic launch Majstorovic appeal

by Setanta Staff , 14 February 2012 Celtic_SPL

Celtic have lodged an appeal to the SFA in an attempt to get Daniel Majstorovic's red card against Inverness rescinded.

Majstorovic was shown a straight red card during the 1-0 win over Inverness, which means he is now facing a three game ban.

However, Celtic have decided to appeal the decision and the SFA have confirmed they have received a fast-track appeal.

The SPL league leaders have launched their appeal on the grounds of "wrongful dismissal for denying the opposing team a goal or obvious goal scoring opportunity".

Majstrovic was given his marching orders as referee Steven McLean decided his last-man challenge on Jonny Hayes was a sending off offence.

The appeal will be heard by an SFA fast-track tribunal on Thursday, February 16 and if successful Majstrovic will be free to feature in the trip to Hibs on Sunday.

Meanwhile, title rivals Rangers have entered administration and under SPL rules they have triggered an automatic 10 point penalty, meaning Celtic are now 14 points clear of their Glasgow rivals in the hunt for the league title.
