Matthew Jarvis was the toast of the Sportsground on Saturday evening as his last-gasp penalty saw in-form Connacht edge Aironi on 19-16 scoreline, much to the delight of the partisan home crowd.
It's not often a drop-goal opens the scoring but that's just what happened in Galway as Lucian Orquera put the visitors in front after 13 minutes.
However, Aironi's lead did not last long - Miah Nikora responding for the hosts with a penalty seven minutes later before the Italians bounced back thanks to Quintin Geldenhuys' try, which was converted by Orquera, and two further penalty goals from the Argentine fly-half ensured that Aironi headed into the interval with a comfortable 16-3 lead.
The hosts needed to up their game after the interval but they had to wait until the 60th minute before they troubled the scoreboard again - Nikora's second penalty of the night was soon followed by another as Connacht edged closer.
On 74 minutes Eric Elwood's men got the crucial score their efforts deserved when Rodney Ah You went over the line before Nikora's conversion levelled things up.
Both sides pressed for a winning score and just as the game looked to be heading for a draw, up stepped Jarvis to break Italian hearts.
