Westy suffers caddy setback

by Setanta Staff , 02 May 2012

Lee Westwood will be without his regular caddy Billy Foster at Quail Hollow this week after he suffered a leg injury playing football.

The 39-year-old star was set to partner his regular bagman at the Wells Fargo Championship after claiming his first title of the season at the weekend with victory in the Indonesian Masters.

But Foster faces up to six week on the sidelines after being forced to use crutches following the accident earlier this week.

Westwood has borrowed Fred Couples' regular caddy, Cayce Kerr, for the North Carolina event and, while admitting that it is not the ideal way to prepare, is confident that his new man's experience will help him through the week.

"It could have happened at a better time, but you can't control these things," he told Sky Sports News. "He's (Kerr) worked for Fuzzy (Zoeller) in the past and Darren (Clarke) as well and they're pretty hard taskmasters so I think we'll get on well and hopefully it won't affect me too much."

Westwood admits that Foster is "an integral" part of his team and wants him back on the bag as soon as possible, with the US Open just six weeks away and the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass set to begin next week.
