Setanta Sports has secured the exclusive broadcasting rights to the German Bundesliga for Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. The new deal covers the three seasons from 2012/13 to 2014/15 and extends Setanta’s existing broadcast rights deal for 2011/12.
Setanta will broadcast up to four matches per week, a weekly highlights show and preview show. The Bundesliga is Europe’s number one league in terms of attendence and its average of 41,802 fans in the 2009-10 season was beaten globally only by the IPL and NFL.
Australians competing in the Bundesliga include Mitchell Langerak and new signing Mustafa Amini at German champions Borussia Dortmund; Nikita Rukavytsya and Ante Drazine at Hertha Berlin; and Matthew Leckie at Borussia Monchengladbach.
