Foxtel Answers

Is Setanta Sports available on Foxtel?
Yes. Setanta is available on Foxtel Channel 525. If you do have Foxtel and wish to subscribe, you can subscribe online on this website!

How do I know if I can get Setanta Sports on Foxtel?
Simply go to channel 525 using your Foxtel remote control or select Setanta Sports in the channel list, then: Customers who CAN receive Setanta Sports will see Setanta Sports in their channel list and a message will come up advising on how to subscribe. Customers who CANNOT receive Setanta Sports will not see Setanta in their channel list and a message will come up saying “Channel unavailable”. If the channel is unavailable please see the FAQ below on "What other options do I have to get Setanta Sports?".

Why can't I get Setanta Sports on Foxtel?
If you have cheked your Foxtel and found you CANNOT see Setanta Sports on Channel 525, there are two common reasons for this: (1) You could be an Optus TV customer - please see the FAQ below regarding Optus TV. (2) Do you live in an apartment building. There is a particular issue with Foxtel where certain channels are not available in Multi-Dwelling Units (MDUs). There is some helpful information on the Foxtel website regarding how to get your building upgraded for Foxtel at: http://www.foxtel.com.au/FactSheet.htm

How much is Setanta Sports on Foxtel?
There are two pricing plans for Setanta Sports on Foxtel, a monthly subscription and an annual subscription. The monthly subscription is $14.95 per month with a $14.95 registration fee. There is no minimum term but this is a rolling subscription and you must contact Setanta Sports to cancel. The annual subscription is $12.95 per month with no registration fee (a total of $155.40 for 12 months). We recommend you take a look at our Terms and Conditions before you subscribe.

What do I need to subscribe to Setanta Sports on Foxtel?
You will need a valid credit card (Visa or Mastercard only), a current Foxtel subscription and your smartcard number. To access your smartcard number you must have your Foxtel remote control and be in front of your television. On the Foxtel remote control press the black button marked “Set up”. Using the arrow keys, navigate to “System Settings” and press “Select”. Using the arrow keys, navigate to “System Details” and press “Select”. You should now see your Foxtel smartcard number on screen. More detailed instructions for finding your smartcard number are set out below in the FAQ titled "How do I find my smartcard number?"

What payment methods can I use?
Setanta Sports only accepts payment by credit card: Visa and Mastercard. Unfortunately we do not accept payment by American Express.

Can I add Setanta Sports to my Foxtel bill?
No. Setanta Sports is a separate company to Foxtel and must be billed separately. Should you cancel your Foxtel subscription you must also cancel your Setanta Sports subscription by contacting Setanta Sports.

I tried to subscribe online but it has not worked?
Are you sure you processed the online subscription correctly? You must fill in all of the fields marked with an *. If you do not do this it will not progress to the next screen. When it is successful you will see a new page on screen telling you that your subscription was successful. Alternatively, have you confirmed that you can get Setanta Sports? Please read our FAQ titled "How do I know if I can get Setanta Sports on Foxtel?".

How do I find my smartcard number?
Please do not remove your Smartcard from the set-top box. To display your Smartcard number on your TV screen using the Foxtel Remote Control please follow the easy steps below: 1. Press the ACTIVE button (below the black power button). 2. Use the light green UP/DOWN keys to highlight the SYSTEM SETUP item. 3. Press the SELECT button. 4. Press the SELECT button. 8. Look for the line labelled "Smart Card Number". 9. Press the blue FOXTEL button to return to the TV programme.

I have multiple Foxtel decoders in my house - will Setanta be activated on all of these decoders?
Unfortunately each decoder will require a separate subscription to Setanta Sports. This is because Setanta does not have access to your Foxtel customer details, as Setanta is a separate company. This means Setanta has no way of confirming that multiple smartcards are at the same residence. The only way a customer can be identified by Setanta is via the single smartcard. If you are subscribing online, please ensure you enter the smartcard number for the box linked to the television you will be using to watch Setanta. For example, don't enter the smartcard number for the decoder box in your bedroom if you intend to watch Setanta in your living room.

I have Foxtel IQ - will it work with Setanta Sports?
Yes - Setanta will work with Foxtel IQ. Please note: if you are an existing subscriber to Setanta Sports and you upgrade to IQ2, you will be issued with a new smartcard. This means you will no longer receive your Setanta channel. Please contact us with your new smartcard number so we can update our records and restart your service. You can do so on our Customer Service page.

I have Foxtel IQ2 - will it work with Setanta Sports?

Why is there no Series Link option with Setanta Sports in my Foxtel IQ?
Series Link is not available to Setanta Sports subscribers using IQ to record Setanta programming. This is because the terms of Setanta’s agreement with Foxtel does not permit us to use this feature. However, there is an option for “Custom Series Link” on the Foxtel planner menu that allows you to set up to record programming on Setanta Sports.

I have Optus TV. Can I get Setanta?
We regret to inform you that Setanta Sports will not be available to Optus TV subscribers in the foreseeable future. If you are an Optus TV customer, please do not contact the Setanta Sports call centre as we are unable to subscribe you. Setanta Sports is available on Foxtel, Austar, Setanta by Broadband and Satellite Direct.

I cannot get Setanta on Foxtel. What are my options?
If you are sure you cannot get Setanta on Foxtel, there are other options for you. Both our Direct Satellite service and UBI World TV maybe an option. You can try contacting their representatives through the information on our How To Subscribe pages. Alternatively, if you have a decent Broadband connection, you could try Setanta By Broadband, and watch games on your computer.

I recently updated to Foxtel IQ but now I can’t watch Setanta Sports – why is this?
When you had your new IQ box installed you were given a new smartcard number. You need to call us or email us with that new smartcard number so we can get your service switched on again. This is because the terms of Setanta’s agreement with Foxtel only allows Setanta to identify customers by their smartcard number. If you change smartcard numbers we can’t send you the signal anymore.

Setanta-i Answers

What broadband speed do I need to watch Setanta-i on my PC or Mac?
Setanta-i provides three broadband speeds in order to enable you to successfully watch our content. The following information is a guide only, as there are many factors which can affect the quality of the broadband connection you access. Our three streaming speeds are: 450Kbps feed - 800K (download) broadband connection required. 900Kbps feed – 1.5K (download) broadband connection required. 1800Kbps feed – 2.5-3Mb (download) broadband connection required. Please check with your ISP as to your current connection speed or test it yourself at http://bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/ or at www.speedtest.net Some example broadband plans and their download speeds are: Speed Options 256/64 kbps (Downstream/Upstream Speed Options 512/128 kbps (Downstream/Upstream) Speed Options 1500/256 kbps (Downstream/Upstream) Connection speeds are shown in downstream/upstream format. For example, 256/64 represents the maximum speed achievable of up to 256kbps downstream/ 64 kbps upstream. The actual speeds for a customer are slower and vary due to stream overheads caused by many factors including the plan selected, the capacity and popularity of websites and computer configuration so to receive a stream of 450K you would require a connection that is slightly higher to cover the overheads.

How does viewing Setanta-i affect my broadband usage allowance?
There are three broadband options for the service which are 450k and 900k and 1.8Mb. For the 450Kbps stream the total download for an average football match would be approximately 395MB. For a 900kpbs stream the download amount for an average football match would be 790MB and at the highest speed of 1.8MB the figure stands at 1580MB. Most Internet Service Providers (ISPs) will advise you if you are likely to exceed your usage allowance but please check with your ISP for information regarding your account.

If you need to install Microsoft Silverlight. Click on the Install button in the Microsoft Silverlight section of the popup window. Open or Save the application (if you choose to Save, you will then need to launch the application, when the download has completed). Click on "Install Now" after viewing the License Agreement. When you return to Setanta-i, if the button beside "Install Microsoft Silverlight" still says Install, press the F5 button to refresh your browser window. This button will then change to "Installed". You will be automatically returned to Setanta-i and you can start enjoying the free content or subscribe to view our Live and On-Demand sports!

Is the service available on Macs as well as PCs?
Yes, the service is available on Intel powered Macs only. All video and content for Setanta-i should be viewable to subscribers who use an Intel Mac. You can test the compatibility of your computer and current set-up before subscribing by viewing the free content either live or in the Free tab which is accessible via the homepage. Please follow this link to determine the requirements for Microsoft Silverlight http://www.microsoft.com/silverlight/resources/install.aspx#sysreq

What do I do if I am unable to watch due to technical difficulties?
If you feel that you have been unable to view the event due to technical issues with our service, please click on Contact Us and email us the following information: your Operating System, Internet Browser details, information on the steps you have taken and what has happened. Please enclose any screenshots of the problems you have encountered if possible.

Why do I get an error referring to a subscription region?
If you receive this message, your computer's IP address suggests that you are trying to access our service from outside your region. Access to Setanta-i is region based. Occasionally however, this message can appear for users who are accessing from within the correct region but your Internet Service Provider (ISP) is assigning an IP address associated with another country. Sometimes when an ISP is globally located they allocate an IP address to you that is not registered from your local country but from their overall bank of IPs which may be registered anywhere in the world. We use your IP to determine where you are trying to view the broadcast but in some cases it is possible to enable your IP even if it appears to be coming from a country outside the broadcast area. Please contact the technical support desk from the Contact Us tab in the Help Menu and send us details of where you are accessing from and the error you are receiving.

I am trying to subscribe but am told my region is different?
You are trying to access another regional version of Setanta-i. This may be an issue with your ISP, in order to confirm your details please email us from the Contact Us tab in Help with your name, email address and postal address and we will try to assist you.

What speeds do Low, Medium and High Quality correspond to?
Low refers to 450Kbps; Normal to 900Kbps and High is 1.8Mbps. It depends on the bandwidth that is made available to you by your ISP (Internet Service Provider), which of these speeds will be the best option for you.

How do I choose the correct speed for my internet connection?
Content will be broadcast at a choice of three bitrate speed options - 450Kbps (Low), 900 Kbps (Normal) or 1.8Mbps (High). Users with faster connections will benefit from being able to stream the higher resolution option. Choose the speed best suited to you by clicking on the television image on the bottom of the player controls and selecting your preferred speed. If you do not have a sufficiently fast broadband connection to the Internet, you will be unable to view content on the service. You can test the quality of the picture you're able to receive by viewing our demo clip before signing up. To access the demo clip please click on "View Demo Here", available on the Setanta-I homepage.
